Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne tropical illness brought on by the dengue virus. It’s characterised by fever, headache, muscle and joint ache, and a rash. Dengue fever is widespread in Southeast Asia, the Pacific Islands, and the Americas.
The title “dengue” comes from the Spanish phrase “dengue”, which suggests “breakbone fever”. This title was given to the illness due to the extreme muscle and joint ache that could be a widespread symptom. Dengue fever is also referred to as “breakbone fever” or “dandy fever”.
