Lapis lazuli is a deep-blue metamorphic rock that has been prized since antiquity for its magnificence and its use in jewellery and ornamentation. It’s composed of the minerals lazurite, calcite, and pyrite, and its colour is as a result of presence of lazurite. Lapis lazuli is present in quite a lot of areas all over the world, together with Afghanistan, Chile, and the US.
The title “lapis lazuli” comes from the Latin phrase “lapis”, which means “stone”, and the Arabic phrase “lazhuward”, which means “blue”. The stone has been used for hundreds of years to create jewellery, sculptures, and different objects of artwork. It’s also believed to have therapeutic properties, and it’s typically utilized in meditation and religious practices.
