Portuguese is a Romance language spoken by about 257 million individuals worldwide. Portuguese is a comparatively simple language to be taught to pronounce. The pronunciation of Portuguese is mostly constant, and there are few exceptions to the principles. Nevertheless, there are some sounds in Portuguese that may be troublesome for native English audio system to provide. For instance, the Portuguese “r” is pronounced otherwise than the English “r”. The Portuguese “r” is pronounced with the tip of the tongue in opposition to the alveolar ridge, whereas the English “r” is pronounced with the tip of the tongue in opposition to the arduous palate.
